The motion poster of the film Happy New Year has been released. The poster was first posted on Twitter by the film’s lead actor Shah Rukh Khan who has curiously changed his display name to ‘Charlie’ keeping with the promotional strategy of Happy New Year. In fact not just Khan all the other actors of the film are also using their characters’ names on Twitter before the release of a film. The multi-starrer has been described as a ‘musical heist’ by the makers and therefore it is unsurprising that the poster depicts a crew of suavely dressed thieves that double up as a very glitzy Brass Band- like entourage. [caption id=“attachment_1664871” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] HNY Poster via Twitter HNY Poster via Twitter[/caption] Khan plays Charlie, the leader of this desi troupe of thieves and Deepika Padukone plays the female lead, a Maharashtrian girl called Mohini. This is the third time Padukone will appear opposite Khan after playing his love interest previously  in Om Shanti Om and Chennai Express. Abhishek Bachchan and Boman Irani are rumoured to have pivotal supporting roles as Nandu Bhide and Tammy respectively, whereas Vivaan Shah is playing Rohan, who serves as both narrator and sidekick computer hacker.  Jackie Shroff, who is experiencing a career revival of late, is cast as the antagonist of the film. Sarah Jane Dias and Sonu Sood, as the character Jag, have supporting roles while Sajid Khan and Malaika Arora Khan are appearing in cameo performances in the film. The film promises to be a typical Farah Khan entertainer with a lot of masala, glamour and friendly appearances from practically half of Bollywood. While the idea of a sophisticated bunch of con-artists breaking into song and dance seems rather sketchy, films like the Dhoom trilogy prove that Bollywood can survive without realism. The launch of the Happy New Year poster also seems to have coincided with the happy news that Aamir Khan will no longer unveil the PK  Poster on 14 August, thereby avoiding a clash with the launch of the Happy New Year trailer. Shah Rukh Khan fans everywhere, rejoice! The film has been given the release date of 24 August, and is therefore guaranteed large footfalls because of the Diwali weekend. The release date is definitely a good sign for the film’s director, Farah Khan who has been working on the making of Happy New Year since the release of Om Shanti Om. The film was earlier postponed because of rumours of an alleged cold war between the director and Shah Rukh Khan. Here is the motion poster of the film:
