Wrestler-actor John Cena has bagged a role in the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee.
The 40-year-old WWE megastar will feature in the Travis Knight-directed film, which centers on the yellow and black bot Bumblebee, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The details of Cena’s character have not been revealed yet. The cast is being led by Hailee Steinfeld (who’s character is a tomboy which doubles up with the job of a mechanic), and also features Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.
Bumbleblee is the first spin-off from the Transformers cinematic universe, which is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay.
The movie will be set in a small California town surrounded by the beach in the year 1987. Steinfeld discovers an Autobot disguised as a Volkswagen Beetle, and goes on to fix the machine up. However, once revived Steinfeld discovers that the Beetle is not a regular car and has many layers to it.
Cena has previously worked in films such as The Marine, 12 Rounds, Trainwreck and The Wall. Cena’s next movie is an animated film titled Ferdinand. He will be providing the voice for the lead character of the movie.
The film is all set to release on 21 December next year, and will clash with Aquaman starring Jason Momoa, Willem Dafoe and Amber Heard. Bumblebee’s production is expected to start off in California sometime in the near future.
