BTS reveals if Grammy 2027 is their goal ahead of Arirang release: 'We’ll submit our album, but the most important thing is...'

Global K-pop icons BTS have opened up about their upcoming album Arirang, describing it as their most mature and emotionally evolved project yet, while also candidly addressing the pressure surrounding awards, including the Grammys.

In a recent interaction with GQ, the members reflected on their growth, both as individuals and as a group, after years of global stardom, record-breaking achievements, and personal evolution. The band emphasised that their new music is rooted less in chasing accolades and more in authentic storytelling and emotional honesty.

BTS says Grammy no longer the only goal

The entire world is waiting for BTS to finally make their comeback. In their latest interview, they revealed what they are hoping to achieve with the comeback album _Arirang_. As the first Korean band to have been nominated for Grammy, they shared that while they will submit their album for the prestigious award, it no longer is the only goal they are looking at.

When asked if Grammy is the pinnacle of success for them, RM said, “I don’t know,” adding, “because time has passed. There are a lot of K-pop-related nominees you see in the general field and, really, I want to send big applause for them.”

He also added, “I mean, we’ll try. Maybe we’ll submit our album to the Grammys again. But I don’t know, we don’t want to be desperately eager for it…. We don’t want to say anymore like, ‘Ah, man, we want the Grammys.’ I mean, it doesn’t mean that we really don’t want it—but we’ll try. But if not, then okay.”

RM also mentioned, “The Grammys was one of the goals that we haven’t really gotten in the past, but I think now, the most important thing is just that we are here back together again, we’re going to see the fans all over the world.”

BTS opens up about Arirang

The Bangtan Boys did not divulge too many details about their comeback album. In the interview, which was done before _Arirang_ was announced, band member Suga said, “We have a diversity of genres. What I can tell you is that it’s going to be quite different from the BTS albums and sounds that you’ve been listening to. You’re going to see a more mature side of BTS this time around.”

RM added, “It’s truly the whole package. I can tell this next album is going to enlighten a little of that confusion.”

The same report also states that the group later shared why they chose Arirang as the name for their upcoming album. “Arirang is a traditional Korean folk song that transcends time and generations, long associated with emotions of connection, distance, and reunion,” they wrote.
