'Whats Up': Phillauri's wedding song offers infectious energy thanks to its vocals

'Dum Dum' from Anshai Lal's Phillauri made quite a few waves on social media. Now, the makers have released another song, on completely different lines. 'Whats Up' is a wedding song that makes you groove to its beats.

Since weddings are integral to the plot of Phillauri, as evident in the trailer, a wedding song is a must. However, the narrative of the song juggles from the present to the past as it captures the modern day wedding of Suraj Sharma's character to a tree (because he is a maanglik) and the flashback setting in Punjab where Anushka Sharma's character is seen prepping for her big day.

There is barely any dance in the song,  baring a few Gidda moves by Sharma as Diljit Dosanjh's character looks on, and Sharma's character who is seen dancing his heart out while sitting on the wedding horse in the baaraat. Both these visuals inject energy into the narrative.

Mika and Jasleen Kaur Royal's vocals make this song worth shaking a leg on. Royal has also composed the music, which is rather average just like Aditya Sharma's lyrics, but the joy and mischief in the singers' voices is extremely infectious.

The over 2 minute long song offers very less of Dosanjh, apart from what we have seen in the trailer and the previous song. In fact, a lot of the crucial points in the song are borrowed from the trailer. 'Whatsup' lacks novelty in not only its music and title but also its visuals.

If there's anything in the trailer that we want to see more of is the song 'Sahiban' which we believe, the makers have saved for the last.

Phillauri is a romantic comedy film produced by Anushka and Karnesh Sharma's Clean Slate Films and is slated to release on 24 March.
