Ten years ago, Sanjay Leela Bhansali launched two industry kids — Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor — in a signature romantic drama Saawariya. While the newcomers of then have become stars today, it seems that Bhansali has still not gotten over the sad fate of the film at the box office. India Today
had reported that Bhansali was planning to launch late veteran actor Vinod Khanna’s youngest son Sakshi in a similar film opposite another newcomer. While he is only producing the film, it will be directed by renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra who will turn film director with this one. The film was scheduled to go on floors in February earlier this year but it has still not started yet.
Koimoi.com
reports that the reason behind the delay is that Bhansali is too occupied with directing his next, period drama Padmavati, which is slated to release on 17 November. But
NDTV
reports that Bhansali is also skeptical of launching two newcomers in a debutante director’s film. That is why he has put this project on the back-burner. While Bhansali might fear that history from 2007 would repeat itself, the same report states that Sakshi has moved on and appeared for a screen test at Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. After all, Johar has helmed successful career launches in the past.
