It’s only the third month of the year and Karan Johar has a release lined up in every month - Shaad Ali’s romantic comedy Ok Jaanu in January, Sankalp Reddy’s period underwater war film The Ghazi Attack in February and the upcoming romantic comedy Badrinath Ki Dulhania, directed by Shashank Khaitan.

Next month, he will distribute the Hindi prints of SS Rajamouli’s war epic Baahubali: The Conclusion. He also ventured into advertising production recently with a jewelry ad featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Priyanka Chopra. His upcoming productions include Ayan Mukerji’s Dragon, Punit Malhotra’s Student of the Year 2 and Abhay Chopra’s Ittefaq.

Now, he has inaugurated the shooting of yet another production called Drive.

Bollywood Hungama reports that Drive will be an action adventure franchise, presumably on the lines of Dhoom. Johar had stated in the past that he does not have the tools to direct an action entertainer like Dhoom. But he seems to have switched gears now. He has roped in Tarun Mansukhani to direct the first installment of the franchise featuring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Mansukhani will return to direction after nine years, his last one being his directorial debut, the romantic comedy Dostana, way back in 2008.

While there were initial reports of a Dostana sequel being made, it has taken the backseat now. Drive will also mark Rajput’s entry into Johar’s Dharma Productions. Recently, Sonakshi Sinha also signed her first film with Dharma in Ittefaq.

On the other hand, this is Fernandez’s second collaboration with Dharma after Karan Malhotra’s sports family drama Brothers two years ago. She is also on great terms with Johar as the two co-hosted the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa last year.
