Sonam Kapoor reveals there was more to relationship with Akshay Kumar in Padman but 'was edited to make film shorter'
Sonam Kapoor responds to the criticism of the unnecessary addition of her romantic relationship with Akshay Kumar's character in Padman.
Sonam Kapoor, seen as Pari in Padman opposite Akshay Kumar, remained a character of much significance. While many loved her nuanced performance in her latest film, there were a few who felt the love triangle shown between the lead actors was unnecessary. While speaking to the media recently, Sonam revealed her track in the film was a longer one than that of the final screen time.
Sonam played alove interest of Akshay Kumar who is married to Radhika Apte. The critics felt that the love triangle somehow distracted the straight communication of the social message.
The Neerja actress, in an interview, said that her role in the film made an impact and if it was shortened for the sake of better content, she does not mind it.
“There was more to that relationship than what was shown. It was edited out to make the film shorter. At the end of the day, if we were able to say what we wanted to say, I think it’s okay,” she said to Huffington Post.
However, she very confidently put forth the fact that her role was at par her satisfaction and she is happy to hear good things from colleagues and director of the film R Balki.
She said to Huffington Post, "You got to be confident about the value you bring to the film as well as be conscious of what the film is contributing to the society at large. Once your film releases, colleagues from within the film industry message you and share their feedback. What touched me the most, in this case, was that my contemporaries texted me. That's not something that happens generally. But my final validation comes from my director. And Balki was very happy with it. So I am happy."
Sonam is currently shooting for Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga with Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao. She will soon be seen sharing screen space with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhasker in Veere Di Wedding.
