Hirani has expressed his desire to work with Khan on several occasions in the past. It was earlier reported that Munna Bhai M.B.B.S and 3 Idiots were initially offered to the actor before Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan, respectively.

More recently, during a promotional event of Hirani-produced Saala Khadoos (starring R Madhavan in the lead), the filmmaker reportedly spoke about his wish to team up with Khan.

The concept has reportedly been locked and the official announcement of much awaited collaboration will reportedly take place in a few weeks.

Hirani is currently busy with the untitled Dutt biopic which sees Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, taking on the role of Sanjay Dutt. Shah Rukh Khan, on the other hand, is busy shooting for Aanand L Rai's next which will see Khan in the role of a dwarf. Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma are the female leads of the upcoming film.

Khan's last release at the Bollywood box-office was Imtiaz Ali's Jab Harry Met Sejal which saw Anushka Sharma as the female lead opposite him.
