Ranveer Singh on working with Deepika Padukone in Padmavati: 'I have no scenes with her'
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have previously shared the screen space in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of Sultan Allauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming period drama, reveals he does not have any scenes with Deepika Padukone, who plays the titular character of Rani Padmini.
In an interview to Filmfare, Singh says, "I have no scenes with her in this film at all. But it’s nice to have someone you can confide in. It’s comforting. It’s great to have someone who can relate to your problems. It was definitely a good feeling to have."
Singh has previously shared the screen space with Padukone in Bhansali's last two films — Bajirao Mastani and Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela.
Singh also addressed how he dealt with all the controversies around the film, even while it was being shot earlier this year. Singh says, "I do have strong opinions on this subject, which I wish to express. But I’ve been requested by the team to not voice it to avoid further hurdles. I channelled the angst into my performance. These are issues none of us anticipated. It’s unfortunate."
Padmavati is reportedly based around the life and times of the 13th century Rajput princess Padmini of Chittaurgarh who chose self-immolation over being captivated by Alauddin Khilji. It also stars Shahid Kapoor, Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari. It is co-produced by Viacom 18 Pictures and Bhansali Productions.
The film is slated to release on 1 December.
