Mumbai: Maharashtra has joined three other states in exempting actor-director Rahul Bose’s directorial venture Poorna from entertainment tax.

“After getting tax exemption from Telangana, Karnataka and Delhi, I was fixated on getting tax exemption for Poorna from Maharashtra because this is my home state. My mother was a Maharashtrian and I have lived in Mumbai all my life.  It’s unbelievable, incredible and so fulfilling that we managed to get tax exemption before the release of the film,” Rahul said in a statement.

The 49-year-old also thanked the Maharashtra government. “This is something that is rare. I would like to thank the Government of Maharashtra for the appreciation and the love they have shown for the film. We promise not to let them down with the release,” he said.

The film is based on a true story of Poorna Malavath, the youngest girl to climb Mount Everest. Rahul, who has starred in films like Shaurya, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Chameli and Dil Dhadakne Do, on Friday took to Twitter, where he shared that it’s a matter of pride that Poorna opened with a tax-free status in his “home state”.
