Padmavati: Uma Bharti joins protests; says pride of Indian woman is above politics

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama Padmavati has been embroiled in controversies from the time it went on floor. From protesters ransacking the Jaipur sets and assaulting the director, burning the film’s set in Kolhapur and most recently, the bandh in Chittorgarh  — the team of Padmavati has seen some testing times. Now, adding fuel to the fire of protests is Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Uma Bharti. In an array of tweets, Bharti has expressed her opinions on the film and the protests against it. On Saturday, the minister took to the social media platform and posted an open letter:

She also claimed responsibility to safeguard the pride of Indian women, which she thinks might get violated by the film. Before this letter, she posted:

  Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh. It is co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions.
