Padmavati: Deepika Padukone condemns destruction of film-inspired rangoli in Surat

In a brazen attack, a group of 100 people destroyed artist Karan K’s rangoli depicting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, _Padmavati_ in Surat. Shouting slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’, the group took out their outrage upon a beautiful and intricate work that has taken 48 hours to be created, destroying it in a matter of minutes.  The work was inspired by the images of the poster of the film.   The film has been under constant attack from right wing groups, triggered by rumours of a love scene between Rani Padmini and Sultan Allaudin Khilji. Shri Rajput Karni Sena physically assaulted the director during the shooting in Rajasthan. Subsequently, the elaborate set of the film was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in Kolhapur. The latest incident in Surat has prompted the distraught artist Karan to post the distressing images of his work before and after the act of vandalism on Twitter  with the caption, “ #padmavati Rangoli controversy! A crowd of 100 people cried JAY SRI RAM [and] rubbed out my 48 [hours of] intense work! @deepikapadukone @FilmPadmavati”.

Deepika Padukone reacted to this news, by tweeting to Smriti Irani about the incident.
