YouTube[/caption] The Times of India reports that CV Reddy, Telugu film producer and chairman of jury that selected Newton as the Oscars entry, confirmed the news by saying, “The amount is being given to encourage good and meaningful cinema.” The same report states that Reddy led a 14 member jury that watched 26 films over the past one week to select India’s official Oscar entry. There were 12 Hindi films, five Marathi films, two Telugu films (Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Gautamiputra Satakarni), two Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Malayalam films each, and a Tamil film were in the running. However, the day had its fair share of bad news for Newton as well. The black comedy got leaked online a day after its release. International Business Times reports that the leaked print is of average quality on most of the websites but a few sites have the full HD print which they have also shared on social media. This illegal activity is sure to affect the box office collection of the film, especially after it gained momentum following the Oscars announcement. Last month, Shree Narayan Singh’s romantic comedy Toilet: Ek Prem Katha had also got leaked , a week prior to its release. Acting on choreographer-filmmaker Remo D’Souza’s tip-off, the police swiftly took control of the situation. Shlok Sharma’s action thriller Babumosai Bandookbaaz had also borne the brunt of piracy last month. The issue is not India-specific and has its presence all across the globe, given the recent leaked episodes of Hollywood TV show _Game of Thrones Season 7_ . Newton also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav. It is produced by Manish Mundra’s Drishyam Films.
