The final day of the royal Neil Nitin Mukesh-Rukmini Sahay wedding festivities resembled a Sooraj Barjatya film. It was a big fat Bollywood wedding with Neil being driven in a vintage car with Nasik Dhol dishing out some catchy beats.
The couple entered the wedding premises on the songs of Neil’s late grandfather, veteran singer Mukesh’s songs. While Neil enetred on the title song of Yash Chopra’s 1976 romantic drama Kabhi Kabhie while Rukmini made an entry on ‘Chaand Si Mehbooba’, the song from Vijay Bhatt’s 1965 film Himalay Ki God Mein.
Rukmini looked every bit the coy bride in a crystal and mogra curtain-adorned doli with baby pink chiffon drapes while Neil looked every bit of the royal groom in his red zari sherwani.
32 Kathakali dancers, in mermaid costumes, put their best foot forward as Neil and Rukmini exchanged the varmalas, perched atop an elevated hydraulic stage amidst sparkling firework displays and pyro lights.
Neil’s father gifted Rukmini a beautiful heirloom gold set while Rukmini’s brother gifted Neil a dapper-looking sherwani after the bride and groom were pronounced man and wife. The two made a picture-perfect couple as they high-fived each another once they were done seeking the blessings of elders after the vows. The vows were followed by the pheras, a family dinner and a cocktail party that continued till the wee hours of the morning.
Earlier in the day, various pre-wedding functions were held such as an intimate haldi celebration, a football and volleyball match pitting Neil’s 11 vs Rukmini’s 11, beer pong sessions, zorbing ball, caricature artists, jenga blocks and tarot reading sessions.
The couple will throw a grand reception in an upscale Mumbai hotel on 17 January. It will be attempted by the who’s who of the Hindi film industry.
