Kangana Ranaut refutes Thane police's claim of involvement in Call Data Records scam; cops summon Ayesha Shroff
After celebrity advocate Rizwan Siddiquee made headlines for getting summoned due to his involvement in the Call Data Records (CDR) scam, along with 12 other suspects, the names of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and Jackie Shroff's wife Ayesha have surfaced in the detailed probe conducted by the Thane crime branch, reports India Today.
Ranaut had reportedly sent the mobile number of Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan to Siddiquee in 2016. Throwing light on Ranaut's involvement, Thane police crime branch DCP Abhishek Trimukhe told India Today, "We found an SMS in Siddiqui's mobile phone sent by Kangana Ranaut and in that she had mentioned his (Hrithik Roshan's) name and his cell number. We had sought details of the number from service provider whether CDR of the number was pulled out or not. We will wait for the details and if CDR has been illegally procured we will probe further."
However, hours after the top cop named Kangana in the scam, the actress categorically denied the claim. As per TV reports, she lashed out at Trumukhe, accusing him of defaming an artiste. She criticised him for basing his allegation on assumption rather than getting to the bottom of the investigation first.
On the other hand, Shroff had allegedly shared details of Bollywood actor Sahil Khan (seen in the film Style) with the advocate. Incidentally, Shroff alleged that Khan had cheated her with eight crore rupees, and they have been involved in a legal battle on the same for some time now.
Trimukhe, spoke to India Today on this development. He said, "Ayesha Shroff's name surfaced when we went through records and hard disks of Siddiquee's laptops and documents from his office. She had provided the illegally procured CDR of Khan to Siddiquee and it is suspected it could have been misused. We will summon her and will record her statement, and will further probe the matter."
Earlier, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was also called in for probe after he was alleged of spying on his wife by providing her call details to Siddiquee. However, later it was reported that he was called just as a witness and had no role to play in the whole scam. Confirming the same, Thane Police commissioner Parambir Singh said, "Nawazuddin Siddiqui has no direct role in the Call Data Record (CDR) case. He was summoned as a witness and has assured cooperation," reports Zee News.
