In protest of the the additional 10 per cent tax over and above the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that has been imposed in Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council on Wednesday, 4 October, said no new Tamil films will release on the following Friday, 6 October. While this is bound to affect the fate of films which are due for release, it has already impacted the box office collection of movies that released last week — Judwaa 2 and Sypder. Image via Twitter[/caption] A source speaking to DNA about the issue said, “About two to three per cent of the business of Hindi films comes from Tamil Nadu so business of Judwaa 2 will get affected and Spyder which is doing extremely well at the box office will also take a beating.” Thus far, Varun Dhawan’s film has made Rs 85 crore, and is inching towards the 100-crore club. However, Judwaa 2’s progress may be stalled by this strike, which is unlikely to be called off until the matter has been addressed or resolved by the government.
