Jia aur Jia stars Kalki, Richa Chadha on a road trip: A look at Bollywood's tryst with travel

The Kalki Koechlin-Richa Chadha starrer Jia aur Jia is all set to hit cinema screens on 27 October. The film is centered on the topics of female friendship (not your clichéd cat-fights and competition, but a real, healthy bond between two women) and travel. With a rich treasury of diverse films, the Indian film industry has on several occasions used the theme of travel and combined it with human bonds and experiences, giving moviegoers a truly thrilling cinematic experience. Boyzone Bollywood has produced many movies based on the theme of an all-boys trip which till date has left testosterone-filled guys talking about how their “Goa trip” has to be just like the one that Aamir, Saif and Akshaye had in Dil Chahta Hai. Another famous one is, “Hey we need to make a pact like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, bro” (guilty as charged!). F.R.I.E.N.D.S This one’s for the countless group travel films that Bollywood has churned out in the past, from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (OMG, yes please) to the likes of Socha Na Tha. Movies that somehow touch the right chords. Hum Saath Saath Hai Family is everything, and what would you rather be doing if not travelling with the bunch of crazies in your life. Movies like Dil Dhadakne Do and Honeymoon Travels have given us enough (family) drama to last us a decade. Boy meets Girl It’s the oldest story in the world. Boy meets girl. They fall in love. Now add some stunning locales to the narrative and you have a hit! Tamasha, Jab We Met, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge are just a few examples of love and travel that have given us some serious envy. Girl Power Feminism rocks. Jokes aside, can you think of anything better than travelling with your girl gang? The famous Sex and the City quote does hold true:“Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.” From Queen to Angry Indian Goddesses, an all girls trip just warms the cockles of our heart.
