Jagga Jasoos to have 29 songs; Pritam's music an integral part of Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif starrer

One noticeable aspect of the trailer of Anurag Basu's upcoming action adventure Jagga Jasoos was that it was devoid of any dialogue, barring one: Ranbir Kapoor's character struggles to blurt out in the last shot. Some viewers found glaring similarities with Basu's last, the 2012 romantic comedy Barfi, as its lead couple were a man and woman of a few words, quite literally.

What worked in favour of Barfi, besides the talking-to-the-camera narrative was its innovative music, churned out by Pritam. The title song, 'Aashiyan', 'Phir Le Aaya Dil', 'Kya Karun', 'Kyun' - they were all not only instant hits but also carried forward the narrative effectively and creatively.

And now, to up the ante, Pritam has disclosed that there will be 29 songs in Jagga Jasoos.

So far, 14 songs in Sooraj Barjatya's 1994 musical Hum Aapke Hain Koun were considered a remarkable achievement. But now, Pritam has created more than double the number for a project he is the most excited about.

Reports from India.com, DNA, Bollywood Hungama, Pinkvilla and Koimoi.com reveal that Pritam has incorporated 29 songs in the narrative as they express the emotions of Kapoor's stuttering character articulately. He also quoted the example of Damien Chazelle's 2016 musical La La Land to show how songs seem very organic when embedded in the narrative intelligently.

As Pritam points out, the songs will act as the mouthpiece of the lead characters, played by Kapoor and his former girlfriend Katrina Kaif. The media outlets mentioned above also state that Basu has convinced the two actors to put their personal differences aside and share the same platform in order to promote the film. It seems like Pritam's 29 songs will also come into play during the promotions as a substitute to the silences between the two.

Jagga Jasoos also stars Adah Sharma, Sayani Gupta and Saurabh Shukla. It is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Basu and Kapoor. It is slated to release on 7 April.
