ICC Women's World Cup 2017: Akshay Kumar apologises for holding national flag upside down

Akshay Kumar is one actor who rarely comes into limelight for the wrong reasons. But his upcoming film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha  was recently embroiled in a controversy when the movie was claimed to have plagiarised scenes from a documentary film named, Manini. Now, Kumar found himself in the midst of a troll turmoil when he posted a picture cheering for the Indian players at the ICC Women’s World Cup final in England, holding the flag of India upside-down. Image via Twitter[/caption] After this picture was posted, the 49-year-old actor was bombarded with comments condemning his ‘disrespect towards the tricolour’. The actor, however, promptly, deleted the picture from Twitter and wrote an apology, accepting his mistake. His fans also came out in support for him. The actor tweeted:

Extending my sincerest apology for violating the code of conduct for the tricolor.Didn't mean to offend anyone, the picture has been removed

Self-proclaimed moral policeman and opinion maker, Kamal R Khan had posted earlier saying:

The actor also interacted with the players. He tweeted a picture, after India lost the match:

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Kumar’s recent list of films were all painted with patriotism and in some ways he has become a true poster boy for '_deshbhakti_' films in the current time when patriotism is being marketed to go beyond being an abstract entity that one feels to a tangible badge that one can/should flash. His recent films — Rustom, Holiday, Baby, Airlift — are all about nationalistic heroism which have done tremendously well at the box-office and have in fact, started a new phase in the actor’s career. Rustom (2016) brought him the coveted National Award for Best Actor. The actor had said initially, “I am a true patriot and I feel proud to associate myself with such films. I am lucky that I get to do such films. I think we all are patriots…Who doesn’t like watching his national flag flying high in the sky. In fact there are a few scenes in Airlift that gave me goosebumps. There was a scene where the Tricolour flies at the airport and it gave me goosebumps and at the same time made me feel proud.
