When the trailer of Raabta released in the first half of April 2017, there was immediate interest in the Kriti Sanon-Sushant Singh Rajput-Jim Sarbh starrer. What started off seeming like — as Firstpost’s Devansh Sharma pointed out in his trailer review (read it here ) — a candyfloss romance, soon revealed itself to be a epic triangle mounted on the scale of a Game of Thrones, and incorporating themes like destiny, the cosmos etc. And while all three actors were certainly eye-catching in both their modern and throwback/historical avatars, it is now another member of the Raabta team who has caught our eye. It’s Deepika Padukone, who has a cameo in the film — and a special song appearance. The teaser of the song was released on Raabta’s social media accounts over the night of Wednesday, 26 April 2017, with the full song scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, 27 April. Deepika’s appearance in Raabta has been ascribed to her friendship with the film’s director Dinesh Vijan and producer Homi Adajania (T-Series is co-producing). In fact, Dinesh Vijan has gone on record to say that he considers Deepika his lucky mascot and there was no doubt in his mind that she had to be part of Raabta too in some way. Deepika’s got a plum spot — she appears in the film’s title track. The ‘Raabta’ track has a smoky nightclub feel, with Deepika herself in a black evening gown taking to the stage as back-up dancers, also in black, take their places behind her.
