The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is on a censorship spree. Earlier this week, they instructed a few absurd cuts in Anshai Lal, Avinash Das and Shivam Nair's directorial debut films Phillauri, Anaarkali of Aarah and Naam Shabana respectively, they have come up with yet another vague order for filmmaker Dakxin Chhara's upcoming thriller titled Sameer.

Mid-Day reports that the Board has ordered the makers to remove three words, "mann ki baat", from a dialogue as it is the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's radio show. The same report spells out the scene the Board referred to. It is the final scene of the film in which the antagonist, played by Zeeshan Mohamed, tells the protagonist, played by Subrat Dutta, "Ek mann ki baat kahoon? Tum character accha bana lete ho!"

To this, Dutta's character responds, "Waise sir, chai se ch***ya banana aap hi se seekha hai!" The Board had no objection to the expletive in the second line since they chose to look at its contextual significance. However, they categorically told the makers to do away with "mann ki baat".

India Today quotes Chhara as saying, "When I approached the Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani, he told me, 'PM ka radio show hai, delete the line'." The Board has cleared the film with an A certificate but despite the 'adult only' certification, has instructed several cuts in the film, including those featuring torture and bomb blast. Chhara complains that he was not even given the mandatory oral hearing before the Board. He plans to challenge the 'mann ki baat' cut.

Sameer is based on the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts. Thus, Chhara is concerned that the chopping off of the bomb blast and torture scenes will negatively affect the impact of the film. Sameer stars Dutta, Mohamed, Seema Biswas and Anjali Patil among others.
