It has been 18 years since the audience saw Ajay Devgn and Tabu star together in a film as an on-screen couple (Thakshak). Their upcoming romantic comedy, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, will soon change that. It is slated to release on Dusshherra 2018, and will also star a younger actress along with these two actors, reports Indian Express.

This yet-untitled film marks a slight career shift for Ajay Devgn, who has not been seen in a romantic film since the 2011 release Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. Tabu, on the other hand, has been part of romantic films such as Fitoor, but the last rom-com she did was Toh Baat Pakki! in 2011. She also starred with Amitabh Bachchan in the romantic film Cheeni Kum in 2007.

Ajay Devgn and Tabu have previously worked together in several films. Their first collaboration was Vijaypath, Farooque Siddique's 1994 action film. Then, they went on to work together in Haqeeqat, which released in 1995, and Thakshak in 1999. They recently played opposing forces in Nishikant Kamat's 2014 thriller Drishyam, and have also teamed up to star in Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again, which is slated to release in Diwali 2017.

Ajay Devgn has been part of the Golmaal franchise for many years now, and he is quite familiar with the action-comedy genre. Tabu, on the other hand, usually stars in intense roles. When asked about his decision to cast Tabu, director Rohit Shetty said her character was the only 'sober' one, especially in comparison to the others.
