Aiyaary director Neeraj Pandey confirms Special 26 sequel; will Akshay Kumar star in the film?
Neeraj Pandey has registered four titles for the Special 26 sequel but may not cast Akshay Kumar owing to the initial Padman vs Aiyaary clash.
Neeraj Pandey has confirmed the sequel of his 2013 hit Special 26 is in the pipeline but the filmmaker is unsure whether Akshay Kumar will be a part of it.
DNA reports that Neeraj's team has registered a couple of titles for the sequel like Special 2019, Special 2020, Special 2021 and Special 2022. Since the release year is yet not fixed, the production house registered more than one title and will pick one as soon as the plans are finalised.
When Neeraj was asked if Special 26 sequel has Akshay in the lead, he replied to DNA, “I won’t be able to comment on that. I don’t have any clue about it.”
The same report states that it is because of the scheduled initial clash between Pandey's Aiyaary and R Balki's Kumar starrer Padman at the box office that led to a fallout.
Though the Aiyaary director denied rumours of any differences, he confirmed his film with Akshay, titled Crack, has been pushed for good. According to him, the idea could not be worked out and he has no near future plans to nurture it further.
Earlier in January, an insider had hinted at financial issues cropping up between Neeraj and Akshay. The source was quoted by IANS as saying, "The two have fallen out over financial issues. Their proposed fourth film together, Crack which was to be made and released on Independence Day last year, has also been shelved."
