This film will be directed by Toilet: Ek Prem Katha director Shree Narayan Singh, and it will see Shahid Kapoor essay the role of a lawyer. His character will take up arms against power distribution companies, because of whom consumers have to pay inflated electricity bills, reports Mid-Day.

A source speaking to the publication said, "It's quite common for people to receive astronomical electricity bills and they don't know how to verify it. The story revolves around the problem of electricity, that's why it's tentatively called Roshni [light]. Shahid plays a lawyer, who raises his voice against this issue. What starts off as a single citizen's fight soon grows, as the country rallies behind him."

The source also revealed that the makers of the film are in the process of finding a female lead for the film. There will be a parallel story line of a romance, and the female lead will be the protagonist's friend who supports him in his pursuits.

The script of Roshni has been written by Vipul K Rawal, who is best known for writing Akshay Kumar-starrer Rustom. Director Singh said that Rawal insisted on casting Kapoor for the lead role, as reported by Mumbai Mirror. It will be produced by KriArj Entertainment and is expected to roll in early 2018.
