Bhumi Pednekar is gearing up for Bhakshak, a film produced by Gauri Khan that will stream on Netflix, where she plays a journalist. In an interview with Hauterfly, she spoke about one incident that happened when she was 14. She revealed she was groped in a public place but she still chose to be silent. She revealed, “I remember this very very clearly. In Bandra, fairs used to happen back then. I was a teenager, probably 14, and was with my family. I knew what was happening… it’s not like I was unaware. I was walking and somebody kept pinching my a*s.” The actress continued, “Though I looked back, I couldn’t understand who did it because it was very crowded. Somebody tried touching me inappropriately again and again and I was getting paranoid. Though I was with my family, there also was a whole bunch of kids from my building as well. But I didn’t say anything at that time because I was thrown off by what had happened.” On women’s desires In an exclusive interview to Firstpost, Bhumi Pednekar revealed, “I think as loudly as men speak about it. Why should there be any difference? Your sexual desire is a very natural zoological reaction. It is not that only men enjoy sex, women like it as much as men do. And I feel the conversation is much more than the want to have sex. It is genuinely about empowering and liberating women. Why are we slut shamed all the time?” She added, “If you look at history, the flag bearers of feminism. It can be a Frida Kahlo, it can be Amrita Pritam or Amrita Sher-Gil all these women, they stood for sexual liberation through their art, through their poems and they all were labelled because it makes the society uncomfortable. There is a notion that we have been taught since our childhood that sex is not supposed to be a pleasurable exercise for women. It is our duty to serve the men and we are not supposed to be receivers of the pleasures of sex. And that is the reason, most of the women have never enjoyed it because there has been a lot of bitterness attached to the activity.”
In a recent interview, the ‘Bhakshak’ actress gave a detailed account of the incident that harrowed her for a long time and why she kept silence when it all unfolded
