Aditi Rao Hydari has tasted both success and failures moderately, never succumbing to any drastic failures, but the actress says she has understood the movie game the hard way, mostly by self-learning.

In an interview with Firstpost, she opens up about her experience of shooting her new film Wazir, and her six-year-long career:

How was your experience of shooting the film?
To put it into words, what the experience means would be extremely difficult to say for me. Some people are quick to describe their experiences, but for me, the Wazir experience touches so deep within that it isn't easy to point out exactly why.

Did you have to audition for the role?
Yes, I did three rounds. Bejoy (Nambiar) said that they weren't looking for a relatively new comer, while Mr. Chopra didn't even know of my existence. Bejoy and his team saw a picture of mine dressed in a particular way and apparently, in that moment, they made their choice.

What was the calling for the film for you? The script, the director or the cast?

Bejoy Nambiar was the reason I did Wazir: Aditi Rao Hydari

Aditi Rao Hydari. Sachin Gokhale, Firstpost

The decision is usually instinctive for me but for Wazir more than instinct, I believe that the director was the reason. After all, he is the captain of the ship, and if the director is someone I trust and admire, he will get together a team that is also good.  It doesn't matter what the budget or the cast is. However, it certainly matters if the people you work with are also the people you love and admire.

How has your journey in the film industry been so far?
It's been great! It's tough to choose which films were the best, but all I can say is that I have done well. I haven't done a disastrous film yet and have always made a point to do films that will be remembered in a couple of years, and not films that make numbers at the box office. A good story always lasts.

Which was the last good story that you saw ?
Bajrangi Bhaijaan, it was a best example of a good story that did commercially well.

What do you look for in a story ?
I always look out for a good story. The business of cinema lies in the art of storytelling, and the way it's told. In that case, I'm an ideal audience, because I don't look for loopholes or historical facts gone wrong. Just a good story.

Are you a method actor?
Not a method actor at all. I'm an instantaneous one who goes on and off. Some shots in the film were just done in two takes. That was quite a different experience. I have never learnt to act.

Tell us more about your character in Wazir?

The emotional graph of the story rests with my character. To have a song with Farhan Akhtar, who I'm such a huge fan of, was absolutely amazing. I think I could see hearts in my eyes.

Directors you'd like to work with in the near future.
Anand Rai, Vishal Bharwraj and Shoojit Sircar.
