Befikre box-office report: Racing ahead, yet miles away from Ranveer Singh's last hit, Bajirao Mastani
Aditya Chopra's Befikre opened to a good box office response and has seen a constant rise in the figures since then leading to an impressive collection on the opening weekend.
On the first day of its release, it garnered Rs 10.36 crore at the box office which is a commendable amount to begin with. The collections rose to Rs 11.60 crore and Rs 12.40 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Thus, the total collections of the opening weekend stand at Rs 34.36 crore across 2,100 screens within India.
While this is one of the top-five opening weekend grossers of Ranveer Singh, it is easily Vaani Kapoor's biggest hit yet as her previous film, Manish Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance in which she debuted garnered only Rs 23.35 crore on its opening weekend.
However, Chopra's romantic comedy could not surpass the box office collections of Singh's last, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's blockbuster period drama Bajirao Mastani which earned Rs 46.77 crore on its opening weekend last year.
Similarly, Befikre could barely match up to the last release of Yash Raj Films (YRF), Ali Abbas Zafar's Sultan, which garnered Rs 180.30 crore at the box office on its opening weekend. However, the film was also riding on the Salman Khan and Eid bandwagon so crossing the Rs 100 crore mark on the very first weekend was quite obvious.
The other release under the YRF banner, Manish Sharma's Fan also starred a Khan in Shah Rukh Khan but owing to the lukewarm critical response, it could garner only Rs 52.35 core on its opening weekend. While Singh has a long way to go before he competes neck-to-neck with the Khans, earning Rs 34.36 crore on the opening weekend is not a bad deal at all.

The collections of Befikre are expected to rise further and the film is expected to at least recover its costs of Rs 70 crore. Since there are no major Hindi releases this weekend, Befikre enjoys an extended window before Aamir Khan's Dangal hits the theatres next weekend on 23 December.
