Badrinath Ki Dulhania first look: Alia, Varun take this Dharma franchise forward

Varun Dhawan was adorable as the macho yet vulnerable Humpty Sharma in the 2014 film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. It was announced earlier that the two will take the franchise forward with the sequel of the film, Badrinath Ki Dulhania. While the poster of the film features Bhatt and Dhawan in desi avatars, producer Karan Johar recently tweeted the first look of the film, from the Singapore shooting schedule. Dhawan followed it up by tweeting more pictures from the shoot.

The comfort the two share in the picture reflects the fact that they have already shared the screen space in two films. Apart from the prequel, the two industry kids started their career together with Karan Johar’s diretorial Student Of The Year in 2012. The Times of India reported that the second installment in the Dulhania franchise will be set in a completely new world. Dhawan will play the role of Badrinath, a young man from Jhansi who falls in love with Vaidehi, Bhatt’s character. The new look of the film substantiates the report as it unveils a whole new avatar of the lead actors. The film has also been shot in Uttar Pradesh and Jhansi, as per a report by NDTV. Badrinath Ki Dulhania will be produced under the banner of Dharma Productions and directed by Shashank Khaitan who made his directorial debut with the prequel Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. The film is slated to release on 10 March 2017. While it is Dhawan’s next release, Alia Bhatt has another Dharma release lined up for this 25 November - Dear Zindagi, which is directed by Gauri Shinde and stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role.
