Badla also stars Taapsee Pannu. This will be the second time that Amitabh and Taapsee will be seen sharing screen space after Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's National Award-winning 2016 courtroom drama Pink. However, this will be the fourth time Bachchan will collaborate with Ghosh. The two have previously worked in films like TE3N, Kahaani and Aladin.
DNA reports that Ghosh's film is a remake of 2016 Spanish crime thriller Contratiempo (The Invisible Guest). Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment is bankrolling the project. Badla will release on 8 March, as per Ghosh's tweet.
Besides Badla, Ghosh is also directing a Netflix Original, Typewriter, a Goa-set horror thriller in which a group of young, wannabe ghost hunters, and a dog, set out to capture the ghost that plagues a home in their neighbourhood.
Bachchan was last seen in Thugs of Hindostan, alongside Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film failed to perform well at the box office. He is also a part of Nagraj Manjule's first Hindi directorial Jhund, reportedly based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO Slum Soccer.
