Back from Cannes, Ash gets down to work
Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan is back to film studios in Mumbai after her annual Cannes trip. Wearing a shimmery dress, the actress commenced shooting for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine in Bandra’s famous landmark, Mehboob Studios. The film is being co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s UTV Motion Pictures. Screwvala and Bhandarkar, along with the star, had announced the film in Cannes in May.
Aishwarya plays a superstar in the film as the title suggests. The script may be under wraps, but Firstpost got exclusive pictures of the actress in character. Stray reports earlier had it that Kareena Kapoor was to play the lead in Heroine; and several names of male co-stars were being speculated upon. But on day one of the shoot, she was filming solo. In any case, 'she' is the hero of the film.
The director has a penchant for unraveling the gritty side of life — Chandni Bar, Satta, Corporate, Traffic Signal, Page 3 and Fashion. In Heroine too, looks like he is going to peel the glamorous façade off showbiz, layer by layer, via his beautiful protagonist. The actresses who have worked with him have always gone on to win numerous awards and accolades, be it Tabu, Raveena Tandon, Neetu Chandra, Konkona Sensharma, Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut. Though Aishwarya was awarded a Padma Shri in 2009, the National award still eludes her. Heroine may just be her big bet.
It takes a birthday for Ekta to dine with family
Ekta Kapoor celebrated a quiet birthday last evening in Mumbai, with a trip to Tirumala in the day to seek the blessings of Lord Balaji, after whom her money-spinning television empire is named.
Given her crazy schedules, she had no time to throw a party this year. It is extremely rare for the busy girl to sit down and eat a meal with her whole family – parents Shobha and Jeetendra, and brother Tusshar. But last night, along with some of her close friends, Anita Hassanandani, Prachi Desai, Mushtaq Sheikh and Tanushree Dasgupta, the entire Kapoor family celebrated her birthday over dinner at home. And knowing them, business talk must have dominated the dinner table conversation. With Dirty Picture on the floors, starring Vidya Balan as Silk Smitha, Ekta’s revved up to bring sexy back to celluloid, eighties style. And yes, every one of her employees got a fat cheque on the special day, like every year.
