Babu Bangaram quick reviews: With no story and forced humour, Venkatesh is only saving grace
Venkatesh-Nayanthara starrer Telugu film Babu Bangaram released in theatres on Friday. This is the third time that the stars are coming together in a film.
Directed by Maruthi Dasari's, the film has Venkatesh playing a double role. The film narrates the love story between ACP Krishna (Venkatesh), a cop and Sailaja (Nayanatara), who runs an eatery.
Here are what the reviews say about the film.
The New Indian Express in its review says, "The film is a haphazard mess with an army of comedians and a mashed-up storyline. Director Maruthi had raised expectations after last year's delightful laughter-riot Bhale Bhale Mogadivoi. Unfortunately, he goes way off the mark with Babu Bangaram."
Giving the film only one star, it further adds, "With a wafer-thin plotline and forced humour, Babu Bangaram is dull and directionless."
Telugu360's review agrees on this point, "No proper story and mediocre screenplay do not help the movie. In earlier interviews, Venkatesh and Maruti have mentioned the movie to contain ample situational comedy. The reality is that a number of comedy scenes appear to be forced without any context." The website has rated the film 2.75 out of 5.
According to International Business Times, "Venkatesh has done justice to both the roles he plays. He impresses everyone with his comedy and action and his performance is the highlight of the film. Nayanthara has done justice to her role and her chemistry with Venky is one of the highlights. Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma, Posani Krishna Murali, Vennela Kishore and Prudhviraj are also the assets of the movie."
PressKS.com has praised the film and says that the superb dialogues, comedy, nice story plot and good music form the positives of the film, while the slow second half and background score form the negatives. They have rated the film as 3 out of 5.
Here's what the audience had to say about the film on Twitter.
