The makers released a trailer of the digitally spruced up version and it shows two iconic scenes from Rajinikanth's film - the walking down the stairs sequence and him dishing out the dialogue, "Naan oru thadava sonna, nooru thadava sonna madhiri (If I said it once, it means I have said it a hundred times)."

Visually, the new trailer plays with more colours as we see an orange tinge of Thalaiva while he walks down the stairs. This makes his presence comes across as supernatural or larger-than-life in tune with his image among the minds of thousands of his fans. Also, the sound amplifies the impact of his famous dialogue as it is sure to echo across the theatres.

The Indian Express reports that initially, the producer of the original film, R. M. Veerappan, had planned to release the digital version on Rajinikanth's birthday on 12 December. However, that did not work out as the Tamil superstar has asked his fans not to celebrate his birthday as the nation mourns the recent demises of Jayalalithathaa and Cho Ramaswamy.

Baasha, directed by Suresh Krissna, revolved around an auto rickshaw driver-cum-gangster who returns to his underworld life, after a long dry spell, in order to avenge the attack on his sister.

Baasha was an immensely popular film and was also dubbed in Telugu and remade in Kannada and Hindi. The Hindi version was remade as a digital version and subsequently released in 2012. Now, the Tamil fans also eagerly await the digital version of Baasha which remains arguably Rajinikanth's most popular film till date.
