Young and versatile actor Vijay Deverakonda, who shot to fame with blockbuster indie hits in Tollywood such as Pelli Choopulu and Arjun Reddy, is all set to foray into Tamil cinema with director Anand Shankar's (known for helming the sci-fi action thriller Iru Mugan starring Chiyaan Vikram and Nayanthara) next untitled film.

The makers have signed Mehreen Pirzada, known for being part of commercially successful films such as Mahanubhavudu and Raja The Great, as the lead heroine for the film, which is planned to be made as a bi-lingual in Tamil and Telugu. Mehreen set foot into Tamil cinema last year with director Suseenthiran - Sundeep Kishan's Nenjil Thunivirunthaal, which tanked at the box-office.

Speaking exclusively to Firstpost about teaming up with Vijay Deverakonda, Mehreen said, "It's amazing to work the current sensation. He's the heartthrob of Tollywood right now. I call him Arjun Reddy. Two months back, we both shot for a Holi song for the Telangana government. That's when I got an opportunity to work with Vijay for the first time. The song was directed by Vamshi Paidipally. We shared a good rapport on sets and I was also thinking that if I get a feature film opposite him, it would be great. I'm really glad that I'm working with him in a movie, which also marks his Tamil debut. I'm happy to be part of this lovely project which is bankrolled by a prestigious production house like Studio Green. I hope it will be a proper re-entry for me into Tamil industry after Nenjil Thunivirunthaal (laughs)."

The project was officially launched today morning in Hyderabad with a formal pooja ceremony in Ramanaidu Studios, followed by a few customary shots to flag off the film. "The makers are planning to conduct a separate launch event for the movie in Tamil too since it marks the debut of Vijay Deverakonda there. The principal shooting for the film will kickstart towards the end of March," a source from the team told Firstpost.

Touted to be an intense drama, this yet-untitled project features veteran actors Nassar and Sathyaraj in important roles. Vijay Deverakonda is currently waiting for the release of sci-fi thriller Ye Mantram Vesave, in which he plays the role of a gamer, on 9 March. He will also be seen essaying the role of a journalist in Savitri biopic Mahanati, which is slated to hit screens on 29 March.
