Aquaman box office collection: Jason Momoa's DC superhero film surpasses $1 bn mark globally
James Wan's DC superhero film Aquaman has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the global box office since its release ahead of Christmas 2018. Starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman, Aquaman has hauled in $1.02 billion. The film swam past the $500 million mark on 28 December last year.
The sixth entry in the DC Extended Universe has become the first film since Christopher Nolan's 2012 offering The Dark Knight Rises, to feature in the $1 billion club.
Aquaman is the also the fifth film from Warners Bros to have crossed the $1 billion mark, after The Dark Knight franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
As per News18, Ron Sanders, President of Worldwide Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures Group and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, made the announcement via a statement.
Director James Wan also expressed his excitement hearing the news, thanking Jason Momoa for his performance as the DC superhero.
"Firstly, massive love and thank you to the fans and audiences around the world. Humbled by the way you've embraced Aquaman and how it has resonated on a global scale. I'll forever be indebted to Jason for turning Aquaman into one of the coolest, cinematic Super Heroes ever, and becoming the gold standard for this character for generations to come." he was quoted as saying by the publication.
