Anurag Kashyap takes a dig at YRF's spy universe at Toronto International Film Festival: 'Saiyaara made more money than War 2 and...'

Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR’s War 2 showed promise, not as a coherent story, but at least dumbed-down, cheerful fun when it began. But just like Tiger 3, it began to take itself way too seriously when all it needed to do was guffaw at its silliness. Some endless conversations and combats barely serve any purpose.

The sheer disappointment of the enterprise fails its two competent leading men, that have shone in masala stories before. And  _War 2_ is not the end, we have more films in the spy universe coming in. One happens to be Alpha and then whatnot.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, whose film Bandar had its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival said how this new film in the spy universe was supposed to make more money than YRF’s blockbuster Saiyaara.

Kashyap vociferously said, “What will you do in a spy universe? There will be two heroes fighting each other, they will be against each other or in a twist, with each other? What more will you do?”

_Bandar_ (Monkey in a Cage) has swiftly emerged as one of the most talked-about films of the year, building massive anticipation among audiences. Helmed by Anurag Kashyap, known for his bold storytelling, and produced by Nikhil Dwivedi who has backed several acclaimed projects, under his banner Saffron Magicworks, the film has already created ripples internationally.

Bandar/ Monkey in a Cage recently had its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025, screened under the Special Presentation category. The event was graced by the makers and their ensemble cast, including Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, alongside Anurag Kashyap and Nikhil Dwivedi, further amplifying the buzz. Adding to the excitement, Anurag took to social media to share exclusive glimpses and pictures from the grand premiere.
