Anurag Kashyap: 'Salman retracted his rape remark, why wasn't that reported?'

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has said that Salman Khan must apologise for his “poor choice of words” when he compared the gruelling shoot schedule of Sultan to feeling like a"raped woman". Anurag made the comment when he appeared on a TV news channel to promote his film Raman Raghav 2.0, which releases on Friday. Anurag and his cast — including lead actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui — were talking about their film when they were asked for their opinion on the Salman Khan rape remark row. File photo/AFP[/caption] While Anurag initially refused to comment, and nearly walked out of the studio, he later clarified his point of view — that whole Salman must certainly say sorry for his unfortunate analogy, all those present at the press interactions for Sultan (where he made the comment) and laughed in response, must also be held accountable, and subjected to the same censure as the superstar. When the TV show anchor wondered whether Bollywood as an industry (and Anurag by extension) was reluctant to call out Salman on his comments, Anurag asserted this wasn’t the case. “I don’t work with Salman,” he pointed out, before adding that the backlash to the rape remark had snowballed to the extent that it did because of the media’s propensity to generate headlines. “Salman has immediately retracted his statement (which didn’t get reported),” Anurag said.
