Anmoll Malik’s Hindi adaptation of Coldplay’s Paradise makes you scream out loud for the original

Do you like Coldplay? Do you think that Chris Martin’s soulful voice can soothe your stress away? Do you think that Grammy-nominated 2011 song Paradise from the album Mylo Xyloto is literal music to the ears? Then don’t watch the video for Lamhein, Because it recreates the Coldplay song in Hindi sung by Anmoll Malik — daughter of Indian composer Anu Malik — and the least we can say is that from Paradise to Lamhein, a lot has been lost in translation. [caption id=“attachment_2457140” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Screengrab from the video.[/caption] The music is recreated by Anu Malik, the lyrics are by Manoj Mantoshri of Galliyaan fame and the music video, directed by Mohit Suri, stars Anmoll with Mohit Marwah, nephew of actor Anil Kapoor whose previous work includes his role in the film Fugly. Maybe it is the fact that we have heard Paradise enough times to be able to hear the nuanced differences between the original and the Hindi version, or maybe it is just not a good idea to adapt a popular English sing for your music career debut, but the fact remains that Lamhein makes you cringe. The melody feels familiar but the treatment of the song is half-baked, such as the drawling ‘Para-para-para-dise’ turned to ‘Lamhein’ doesn’t quite fit. Having said that, Anmoll Malik has done a good job with the vocals and Anu Malik has done what he does best: Providing music by adapting tunes — officially in this case. But the overall effect leaves a lot to be desired. You can watch the full video here:
