Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt's divorce makes 2016 the year of celebrity break-ups

With news of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt — the golden couple of Hollywood —  getting a divorce due to irreconcilable differences, 2016 is the year of break ups. News of the couple filing for a divorce came on 20 September, and according to TMZ, the 41-year-old actress filed the legal documents on Monday and has asked for physical custody of the couple’s six children. Sources close to the couple say Jolie’s decision has to do with the way Pitt was parenting the children and she was extremely upset with his methods. Marion Cotillard is also supposed to be a tense point between the couple since rumours of Pitt and the French actress being too close have surfaced. Jolie has listed the date of separation as 15 September, 2016. Image from AP[/caption] Back at home, the three biggest splits that happened this year in Bollywood are Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif; Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan, and Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Bhabani. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma briefly broke up before getting back together. Ranbir and Katrina had been together allegedly since 2009, when they starred together in Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani, and needless to say the break up is still following them till date. The two actors also have a film coming together, Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos. Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Bhabani got married in 2000, and filed for a divorce 16 years later earlier this year. Post-divorce, rumours of Akhtar cosying up to Kalki Koechlin, Aditi Rao Hydari and Shraddha Kapoor have emerged. They (mostly Arbaaz) tried to vehemently deny it for the first part of the year and then decided to make it official later. While Malaika and her younger sister Amrita Arora can still be seen bonding with the Khan-daan, they are officially separated. Meanwhile, back in Hollywod, Jennifer Lopez split with her boyfriend of three years Casper Smart this year, while Idris Elba also split with his girlfriend Naiyana Garth. Two other couples made headlines for the split; Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. However, Taylor Swift probably takes the cake with two break ups this year (Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston). (JK Taylor, you do you!) We think it’s safe to say if you’re thinking of shacking up with someone this year, maybe wait till January 2017? Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
