Amrita Rao on playing Meenatai in Thackeray: Huge compliment to be approached for a role meant for you
Amrita Rao, who will be playing Balasaheb Thackeray's wife Meenatai Thackeray in the Abhijit Panse directorial, is making a comeback in films after a six-year hiatus
Amrita Rao, who will be making her comeback in films with the forthcoming biopic Thackeray, said that she was approached for the role of Meenatai Thackeray because of the image she has created for herself.
In an interview with DNA, the Vivah actress spoke about what prompted her to take up the role in Thackeray. She said, "It’s a huge compliment to be approached for Meenatai Thackeray’s role when you’re the only choice because of the image you have. I have earned the image for myself."
She further said that she was not scared of being typecast as the "ethnic" characters she has played have resonated with the audience.
Speaking about sharing screen space with "brilliant actor" Nawazuddin Siddiqui, she said she experienced a lot of firsts with the film and has cherished each day of shoot.
Amrita Rao last appeared on the big screen in 2013 with Prakash Jha's political-drama Satyagraha. She made her TV debut in with Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai in 2016, but since then has avoided the limelight.
Based on the life and times of Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray, the Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer has been steered by Abhijit Panse.
Thackeray hits theatres on 23 January, to commemorate Balasaheb's birth anniversary.
Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, the film will go on floors in July.
"Chakda Xpress is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice," said Anushka Sharma in a statement
