Amitabh Bachchan mourns Yash Chopra, regrets not meeting him

His association with the veteran director Yash Chopra may have stretched to more films than any other leading star, but for actor Amitabh Bachchan the sole regret he had was not finding the time to fulfill the director’s wish of having a casual chat with him. “I have just one regret with regard to him. For some months lately, he had been calling and telling me to drop by in the early hours of the morning as I returned from the gym for ‘just a chat - no work, no issues, just a chat’. I had promised him that I would, and I never was able to,” Bachchan wrote about Chopra, who passed away yesterday, on his blog. “As I sit back in his remembrance I wonder if this was another premonition that he may have had of his departure. Of his limited time,” the actor wrote. Bachchan, who worked in some of Chopra’s most memorable films like Deewar, Silsila, Kabhi Kabhi and Kaala Patthar, said that he last saw the director during his recent birthday celebrations, where the director had turned up despite ill health and being advised rest. “He had made a commitment he said. He had been asked to speak, one among four others that did that evening, over the sit down dinner. His words still ring in my ear and what remains are the resonance of his goodness and feeling that he exuded towards me,” the actor wrote. The actor also wrote about how the director rose in the industry with his talent and hard work to build a reputed studio and became an institution in the film industry. He also reminisced about spending time with the director at his home. “Yash ji, your contribution to the millions that had the privilege to witness your creativity shall be immortal … may we all savour it till our end …” the actor wrote.
