All you need to know about Telugu film actor Uday Kiran

Telugu film actor Uday Kiran, one the youngest winners of the Filmfare Best Actor award, allegedly committed suicide at his house in Hyderabad on Sunday night. Kiran, 33, was found hanging from the ceiling at his flat in Sri Nagar colony last night by his family, according to the city’s police. Nuvvu Nenu, Manasantha Nuvve and Sriram were some of the other films in which the actor won fans with his performances. With his first three films – Chitram, Nuvvu Nenu and Manasantha Nuvve – becoming massive hits, he was dubbed Telugu cinema’s “Hat-trick Hero”. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor - Telugu for the film Nuvvu Nenu in 2001, and became the youngest winner of the Filmfare best actor award after Kamal Haasan. Kiran went on to star in a number of romantic films, including Nee Sneham and Kalusukovalani. In 2006, he made his Tamil debut with the film Poi, directed by veteran director K Balachander. In past interviews, speaking about the big breaks in his career, Kiran said that he’d been very lucky to have got the roles he did. “When I was pursuing undergraduation, a friend of mine asked me to approach director Teja. When I went there, nearly 500 people were waiting to be auditioned,” he had said in an interview with  The Hindu in 2010, recalling how he got his debut roles in Telugu and Tamil cinema. “Surprise, I was selected to play the lead in his film, Chitram. Being a frequent visitor to Chennai, I once met ace director K Balachander who asked me whether I was interested in playing the lead in his Poi. Could anyone turn down such a golden opportunity?” Kiran’s other notable performances include his roles in Sreeram, Avunanna Kaadanna, Nuvvekaddunte Nenakkadunta and Jai Sriram. His profile shot even higher when he was engaged to Chiranjeevi’s daughter Sushmitha in 2003, but the wedding was called off eventually. The couple never made official statement explaining their break-up. Kiran later married Vishitha in October 2012. However, some reports indicated breaking off the previous relationship may have cost him roles in other films. It didn’t help that many of his films didn’t make much money. The actor was also estranged with his father over management of his finances, and the Times of India report said that the actor’s father had chosen not been involved in Kiran’s life in any way. A police officer quoted his wife and other family members as saying that he was in deep depression for the last few days. His depression may have been caused by him not being able to get a role since February 2013. On the day Kiran allegedly committed suicide, he had refused to attend the birthday party of a relative in the city on Sunday night and asked his wife, Vishitha, to represent him at that event. Vishitha grew suspicious when he did not respond to her phone calls. She rushed back home and found him hanging from the ceiling. With the help of neighbours, she took him to hospital. Family members told police that Kiran had been in touch with a Tamil filmmaker and was waiting for a phone call on Sunday from that director. However, it seems that call wasn’t made to him and this may have been Kiran’s tipping point. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Kumar told reporters that no suicide note was found. He said investigations were on into the cause of the suicide. With inputs from agencies
