Mumbai is filled with hopefuls who would cheerfully give an arm and a limb to debut in a Yash Raj Films’ production. For Ambala girl Parineeti Chopra, the opportunity fell on her lap. Besides acting in school plays, Chopra had no acting experience and was actually working as a public relations consultant for YRF — she was part of the team that did the publicity for Band Baaja Baaraat — when she was
asked to audition by Maneesh Sharma
. One short acting course and a casting call later, Aditya Chopra had signed Chopra on for a three-film deal with YRF. [caption id=“attachment_1378081” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]
Courtesy: Facebook[/caption] One, two, three, go! Chopra made her debut with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, in which Chopra played the role of Dimple Chadha. The film got a mixed response, but Chopra made enough of an impression to score the lead role in Ishaqzaade, opposite debutant Arjun Kapoor. Ishaqzaade was a hit and Chopra’s performance as Zoya was well-appreciated. Her father wasn’t entirely thrilled by it though. Chopra’s father is a very traditional man — Chopra has said that the only time she’s going to tell her father about a man in her life is when she’s sure she’ll be marrying the guy — and when he saw the lovemaking scene in Ishaqzaade between Chopra and Kapoor, he didn’t speak to her for a while. One can only imagine how he reacted when he saw Chopra in Shuddh Desi Romance. As Gayatri, Chopra kissed co-star Sushant Singh Rajput 27 times in the film. So far, Chopra has won nominations for each of her films. For Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Chopra won the Filmfare Award for best debut and was nominated for best supporting actress. She was nominated for the Filmfare Award for best actress for her next two films. She also received a special mention from the National Award jury for her performance in Ishaqzaade. Fourth time lucky? Hasee Toh Phasee is the first time Chopra will be working outside YRF’s circle. Produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap, the film is directed by debutant director Vinil Mathew. Chopra has been paired with Sidharth Malhotra, who was last seen in Student of the Year. The film is about Meeta (Chopra) and Nikhil (Malhotra) who are the odd ones out in their respective families. But given Nikhil is all set to marry Meeta’s sister, there’s a whole lot of whirling and quirk that the audience is treated to before we find out whether Meeta and Nikhil will actually live happily ever after. Talking about her Hasee Toh Phasee character, Chopra said in an
interview
, “I wanted to do something different and I got this movie. The role is not like Ishaqzaade or Shuddh Desi Romance because in those two I played very Indian characters. This was completely different, I am off (mentally) in the movie and because of that I really had to do a lot of work”. The perfect size She’s had a dream entry into Bollywood, her cousin is actress Priyanka Chopra, she’s got hits to her name — everything seems perfectly placed in Parineeti Chopra’s life. But despite all this, Chopra has body image issues and has been working very hard to get “skinny”. In the past, Chopra has confessed that she loves eating pizza and from the look of things, she hasn’t been indulging herself much. She’s been working hard to lose weight. Chopra seems to be worried that by looking fuller, she might miss out on opportunities and may look unflattering in certain outfits. “I am in a visual medium and should be able to compete with every good-looking actress,” she explained in
an interview
. “The body type affects what I wear and I can’t get best dresses for myself. I can’t wear sleeveless, because I would look fat in it. I want to lose even more weight and look better in real life.On screen if I have to wear shorts or bikini for a scene I should have the body for that.” Let’s hope Hasee Toh Phasee is well received and it does more for Chopra’s self esteem than her past successes have. Because it’s obvious that regardless of what size may fit her, there’s no doubt Parineeti Chopra is one of the most talented actresses of her generation.
