Alia Bhatt's nutritionist Dr. Siddhant Bhargava calls fruit juices 'poisonous': How these 'colourful sugar water' can harm your health

Dr. Siddhant Bhargava, the celebrity nutritionist, who worked with stars like Alia Bhatt, Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday, recently spoke about the misconceptions of people assuming fruit juices being healthy. But on the flip side, he shared how it is nothing more than a ‘colourful sugar water’, which can impact your health over a period of time.

Why are fruit juices poisonous?

Speaking about how people are being misled and making them assume fruit juices are nutritious, Bhargava said that while fruits are packed with vitamins and minerals, the same can’t be said for fruit juices. He revealed that during the juicing process, the fruits lose their fibre, and what remains is nothing but ‘colourful sugar water’.

While fibre slows down the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream, without this fibre, the sugar in the fruits becomes the reason for sudden insulin spikes because of its rapid entry into the body.

Having a whole fruit instead of fruit juice

The nutritionist recommended having a whole fruit over a glass of juice, as the fibre in it plays a crucial role in moderating blood sugar levels and keeps you full for a longer time. It also helps in maintaining gut health.

Natural sugars in fruits are not organically bad

Bhargava further shared that while the natural sugars in fruits are not organically bad, they are meant to be consumed with the fruit fibre. The fruit juice without the fibre can lead to health issues like obesity, poor metabolic health, and insulin resistance.

How the health food industry misleads consumers

The nutritionist revealed how the health food industry is misleading consumers by promoting and marketing them as healthy and nutritious drinks, and selling them at premium prices.

Shift in approach

As per Bhargava, if you want nutrition, then skip the juice and chew the fruit and stop getting being trapped by the marketing strategies of food industry.
