Akshay Kumar's Padman release date pulled ahead; to clash with his 2.0 on Republic Day weekend

In a never seen before scenario, this Republic Day is going to see two Akshay Kumar releases — _Padman_ and _2.0_ . Although Kumar’s Arunachalam Muruganantham biopic was slated to release on 13 April, 2018, it has now been pulled ahead to 26 January. Therefore, now the Republic Day weekend will see a clash between Rajinikanth-starrer 2.0, which is slated to release on 25 January. Not all superheroes come with capes! Bringing you the true story of a real superhero, #Padman this Republic Day - 26th January, 2018! pic.twitter.com/hcEcJPO6Up

Playing the protagonist in Padman, Kumar will star along with Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, who play leading roles in the film, too. The film is based on a short story written by Twinkle Khanna and revolves around the real-life achievements of Muruganantham, who is noted for creating low cost sanitary napkins. His interest and efforts have eased the experience of menstruation for several hundred Indian women, especially those living in rural areas. Recently, Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again and Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar clashed at the box office during the Diwali weekend too. Both films did well considering how they were on the opposite ends of the spectrum thematically. For Kumar, the task of playing an everyman in Padman while also essaying the role of a menacing villain in 2.0 and be convincing as both might come across as a challenge. The fact that he is playing a negative character after 16 years also adds to the trickiness of the clash.
