Akshay Kumar is one busy man. After wrapping up the shooting of Shree Narayan Singh's romantic drama Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, he is currently shooting for R Balki's Padman now. He also has S Shankar's science fiction drama 2.0, Subhash Kapoor's biopic on Gulshan Kumar Moghul, Shivam Nair's action thriller Naam Shabana and an untitled project, co-produced by Salman Khan and Karan Johar, lined up for release.

In the midst of shooting for and signing all these films, he has signed yet another one - a sports biopic. Reema Kagti has signed the actor for Gold, a biopic based on Balbir Singh, the celebrated hockey player who led India to victory in three consecutive Olympics in 1948, 1952 and 1956.

Now, DNA reports that the makers approached Swara Bhaskar to play the role opposite Kumar. In case of a nod, this would have been yet another of Kumar's fresh pairings. He has been seen romancing non-mainstream female actors like Nimrat Kaur, Bhumi Pednekar, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte recently. Bhaskar would have been another actor who would have made a unique pairing with Kumar.

However, Pinkvilla reports that Bhaskar is not a part of the film. It quotes her as saying, "While I would LOVE to work with Akshay sir who I’m a fan of and with Reema Kagti whose work I admire deeply; sadly the fact is I am not at all a part of Gold. I know it’s a great script and I wish the team well for the shoot."

But on a brighter side, Bollywood Life reports that the makers have roped in Kunal Kapoor to play a hockey player as well. The same report states that both Kumar and Kapoor will spend the next five to six months training for their roles before the film goes on the floors in July or August this year.

Gold will be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment. It is slated to release on Independence Day 2018.
