Taking a day out of all his shooting commitments to Toilet: Ek Pram Katha, Jolly LLB 2 and 2.0, Akshay Kumar launched the biography of renowned wrestler and actor Dara Singh. Twitter[/caption] In what would have been Dara’s 88th birthday, Kumar unveiled the biography titled Deedara aka Dara Singh in which Seema Sonik Alimchand has chronicled the life of the legendary wrestler who was the first sportsperson to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Dara’s illustrious life came to a tragic end in 2012 because of a cardiac arrest. His son actor Vindu Dara Singh invited fellow fitness freak Kumar to launch the book. Kumar has worked with Vindu in films like Sajid Khan’s Houseful, Shirish Kunder’s Joker and Sabbir Khan’s Kambakkht Ishq. Alimchand, who has penned the biography, has also written the biography of Rajinikanth. Thus, after documenting the life of the south sensation Thalaiva, she has gone all the way to Punjab to immortalize the life of Dara Singh.

Dara was also known as Rustom-e-Hind. Interestingly, Kumar has also done a period film titled Rustom earlier this year. Dara has donned different hats of actor, director, writer and producer both in Hindi and Punjabi cinema. After he quit wrestling, he began working as a stunt actor in films. He got his break as the leading actor in the film titled King Kong. Though he went on to act in dozens of films in both the industries, he is best remembered for his role as Hanauman in the Ramayana television series. He was also loved for his supporting roles as Mr Chaddha in Nikhil Advani’s Kal Ho Naa Ho and as Geet’s grandfather in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. Though he has shared the screen space with industry big shots like Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta and Shah Rukh Khan, it was Kumar who was roped in by Vindu to launch his biography. Given Kumar’s fitness record, we bet he is not complaining!
