Akshay Kumar talks about Rs 1000-crore benchmark: 'Hope we make Rs 2000-3000 crore films'

Akshay Kumar recently graced the silver screens with the disaster drama, Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue. Inspired by the life of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who saved the lives of more than 60 miners from Raniganj Coalfields back in 1989, the project reached the cinema halls on 6 October. During a recent interaction with India Today, Akshay Kumar talked about Bollywood movies such as Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 crossing the Rs 1000-crore mark. The OMG 2 actor stated that he hopes Bollywood films are also able to surpass the Rs 2000-3000 crore mark like Hollywood movies. Akshay Kumar on Rs 1000-crore club Akshay Kumar also revealed that he was extremely ecstatic as Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and OMG 2 performed well at the box office. The  Bell Bottom star added that the industry went through a very rough phase during the COVID-19 pandemic and now it is a good thing for the industry that Rs 1000 crore is the new benchmark for films. Akshay Kumar was quoted as saying, “Also, I hope that we make Rs 2000-3000 crore films like Hollywood because the kind of cinema, the screenplay, the script that we have they don’t have." Akshay Kumar on commercial success The Welcome actor was also asked about his opinion on commercial success. Reacting to this, Akshay Kumar said that according to him, commercial success is crucial as it helps one make other films. Speaking about his recent release, Mission Raniganj, the actor revealed that the project has been made on a certain budget and he believes it is a commercial film. He said, “It’s not a ‘Jawan’ or a ‘Rowdy Rathore’. It’s not that kind of film. It has a niche audience but I hope it does good business." What’s next for Akshay Kumar? Akshay Kumar is famous for delivering several movies in a year. After Mission Raniganj, the actor will appear in the third installment of the Welcome franchise, Welcome To The Jungle. The much-awaited movie enjoys an ensemble cast with Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, among others.
