'Akshay Kumar feels he's in depression': 'Hera Pheri' director Priyadarshan reveals actor's reaction on Asrani's demise

Veteran actor Asrani who was one of the greatest of all time and known for movies like Sholay, Abhimaan, and Bawarchi, has passed away at 84 due to age-related ailments. He had his most successful collaborations with actor and writer Kader Khan.

Some of the films they did together were-  Swarg Se Sundar, Charnon Ki Saugandh, Patal Bhairvi, Himmatwala, Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni, Dulhe Raja, Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare.

Priyadarhan reveals Akshay Kumar’s reaction

The filmmaker revealed, “Akshay Kumar called me twice. He said that he feels he’s in depression as he was working with Asrani sir for the past 40-45 days in two films.”

He added, “He would give Akshay a lot of advice. He also used to tell Rajpal about the mistakes he made in his life and how he shouldn’t make those.”

Priyadarshan also said, “Asrani sir used to be bring a lot of positivity on set. He was a great man. It’s a personal loss for me. Very rarely do you meet people whose death affects you so much.”

The Hera Pheri director continued, “I’m blessed that I shot his last take. It happened about five-six days back. That’s why I was very shocked when I heard the news yesterday. I’ve just one small scene left with him in Haiwaan. It just has one dialogue by him. We’ll manage when we get down to filming it.”

Akshay tweeted- “Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest of hugs just a week back at the shoot of Haiwaan. Bahot pyare insaan the…he had the most legendary comic timing. From all my cult films Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhag to De Dana Dan, Welcome and now our unreleased Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan…”

The movies Priyadarshan and Asrani did were- Hera Pheri, Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar, Hulchul, Garam Masala, Malamaal Weekly, Chup Chup Ke, Bhagam Bhaag, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Dhol, Billu, and De Dana Dan.
