In the film Aishwarya's character, Saba Taliyar Khan, has an affair with a much younger Ayan, played by Ranbir Kapoor. The two are seen to have a lot of intimate scenes and fans have loved the chemistry they share in the teaser and trailer. However it is said that this chemistry didn't go down too well with her family.

Many reports suggested that the Bachchan parivar is upset with their bahu for her steamy scenes with Ranbir Kapoor in the film. A  report in Open Magazine also said that the family had asked Johar to edit out certain scenes in the film.

However BollywoodLife.com reported, “You really think Aishwarya would not tell Abhishek and her family about her role in the film? It is ridiculous to even infer that Abhishek was not aware of these scenes or her character. She plays an older woman who’s physically attracted to a younger guy, so of course there will be love making. She is playing a character and so is Ranbir. If tomorrow Abhishek shoots an intimate scene with an actress, would the same conversation hold? There is no issue between the Bachchans and Karan.”

The rumours were further fuelled when the family did not attend the film's screening organised by Karan Johar. Family members of both Anushka and Ranbir were at the screening, but Aishwarya Rai and her family, who are also known to be close to Karan, were missing.

It was also noticed that Abhishek and Amitabh were not promoting the film on social media as they did during Sarbjit's release.
