Two of the biggest Bollywood releases of this year Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay released in theatres on Friday and both seem to be flying high. However, going by the early box office reports it looks like Karan Johar's film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has raced ahead of Ajay Devgn's Shivaay on the first day of their release.
The pre-Diwali period is generally considered to be a lull at the box office. Yet the two films seemed to have created magic. At the end of the first day Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has raked in Rs 13.30 crores at the Indian box office. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about its success on Saturday morning.
#ADHM Fri ₹ 13.30 cr. India biz... EXCELLENT at plexes... Note: Dhanteras. Pre-Diwali.

The film released in UAE on Thursday and it made a good impact there as well, earning Rs 3.70 crores there as well.

Shivaay was not too far behind either. IBTimes reports that the film garnered Rs 11 crores on the first day.
However koimoi.com observed that while Ae Dil.. did great business in multiplexes it was Shivaay's victory run at the single screens.
While the films did well in the northern region they faced a stiff competition in the south with Kaashmora and Kodi releasing in Tamil Nadu and Mukunda Murari and Santhu Straight Forward releasing in Karnataka.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil saw some tough times before its release as there were calls to ban its release due to the presence of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in the film. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had threatened to ban the film and 'allowed' its release only after the Producers accepted certain conditions set by the party chief Raj Thackeray.
